Hermès Complexion Balm Review: Luxury with a Catch

When Hermès launched its Complexion Balm spf 30, I was immediately intrigued. A fusion of skincare and makeup from a house synonymous with craftsmanship? Count me in.

I recently purchased the product, and after several weeks of use, I have mixed feelings. Here’s my honest breakdown.

Brand Description:Designed by Gregoris Pyrpylis, Creative Director of Hermès Beauty, this tinted cream is said to unify, hydrate, and protect the skin. Its hybrid formula—part skincare, part makeup—offers light coverage with a natural, luminous finish that claims to last up to eight hours.*

The balm is formulated with hyaluronic acid for lasting hydration, evening primrose oil and Baikal skullcap to help shield against environmental stressors, and mineral SPF 30 for daily sun protection. It’s also non-comedogenic and dermatologist-tested.

Let’s get this out of the way: the price is steep. At $90 (before tax) for a tinted balm, it's hard to ignore. Of course, with Hermès, you’re paying for more than the formula—there’s the brand name, the packaging, and the heritage. Still, this is definitely a splurge, not an everyday essential.

Texture, Finish & Wear:This is where the balm shines.

  • The texture is silky but not greasy.

  • It blends like a dream.

  • Coverage is sheer but buildable.

  • The finish is luminous, never shiny.

  • It feels like I’m wearing nothing at all.

The shade range isn’t extensive, but the undertones are beautifully skin-like. Mine shade is 30 Ficelle. The texture truly wowed me—if you’ve seen my recent reel, you’ll notice how smooth and blendable it is. It’s perfect for no-makeup days and works well with a bit of concealer when you need more coverage.

The Scent: Not for Everyone

Hermès is known for its iconic fragrances, but the scent in this balm didn’t win me over. It’s floral and powdery—elegant, yes—but a bit too strong, especially for something that sits so close to the nose.

When I tested it on my arm, the scent seemed fine. But once I applied it all over my face, it was overwhelming. If you're sensitive to fragrance in face products, this might be a dealbreaker.

Final Verdict

Here’s the thing: once I got past the price and the scent, I loved everything else.

Would I repurchase? Maybe—if they release an unscented version or I catch it on promo. If you’re someone who appreciates luxury packaging, lightweight coverage, and that coveted glow-from-within finish, the Hermès Complexion Balm might be your next indulgence.

Just don’t expect love at first sniff.
